Atwal wins in Malaysia
Arjun Atwal of India has won the Maybank Malaysian Open Title after beating Peter Hedblom in a sudden-death play-off after both players finished on 18 under par. Atwal took the title for a second time after his Swedish opponent three-putted at the second extra hole.
Atwal was seven strokes off the lead going into the final round but reeled off a stunning run that included eight birdies in his first 15 holes to haul himself back into contention with a superb round of 64.
Following a lengthy rain delay Atwal tied with overnight leader Hedblom and then had to watch as his opponent saw a putt for victory slide past the hole on the 18th.
The 2003 winner had all the momentum going into the play-off, and clinched victory after both players tied the first extra hole.
Britain's Simon Dyson finished in a tie for third with Kane Webber of the USA, one shot behind the leaders, in what was a creditable performance.
