Webber talks down chances

Mark Webber has played down his chances of winning his home Grand Prix in Melbourne despite enjoying plenty of encouragement in Friday's practice sessions. The Red Bull driver recorded the second fastest time in the afternoon session to the delight of the home crowd but insists fans should not take too much notice of the latest results.

Webber, who is the only Australian driver in Formula One, is hoping to be the first Australian to finish on the podium at their home Grand Prix.

But he refused to talk up his chances despite an impressive drive around Albert Park on Friday.

"We know not to read too much into it," Webber told a news conference.

"We're not second quickest. We're still fighting for the back of the points.

"The car's not working too badly. The guys have done a good job, we've had a pretty smooth run, no real reliability problems and we're in good shape to get ready for qualifying.

"The reliability was very poor last year and absolutely unacceptable how many failures we had.

"This year the team's worked really hard on addressing that because that's where we have to be. We have to make sure that we are equal if not better than other teams."
