Defending champion Nadal through to third round at Indian Wells.
Defending champion Rafael Nadal eased to straight-sets victory over Colombian qualifier Santiago Giraldo in the second round of the Pacific Life Open in Indian Wells. The second-seeded Spaniard won 6-3, 6-3 in windy conditions and will face America's Donald Young next. Nadal said: "Today I win. That's it. I can't do too much."
Last year's defeated finalist Novak Djokovic also began well, defeating Italian Andreas Seppi 6-3 7-6 (7-3). Djokovic will face Germany's Philipp Kohlschreiber in round three.
In the doubles, Jamie Murray and Max Myrni saw off Ivan Ljubicic and Tommy Robredo 6-4 7-6 (7-3).
They were joined in the next round by Andy Murray, Jamie's brother, and Eric Butorac. who defeated Martin Damm and Pavel Vizner 7-5 6-3.
Great Britain No1 Andy Murray will play his first singles game on Sunday against Austrian Jurgen Melzer, while top seed Roger Federer plays Spaniard Guillermo Garcia-Lopez of.
