Brough named as Scotland captain

Danny Brough will lead Scotland in October's rugby league world cup. The tournament - the first in eight years - will be held in Australia, and after the disbandment of Great Britain the home nations are looking to knock the hosts off their perch. Brough, scrum-half for Wakefield Wildcats, has been appointed Scotland's captain.

Brough, 25, rejoined Wakefield at the start of this Super League season, having started his career at the club. Last year Brough helped Castleford gain promotion back to the top division and will face his former club this Friday at Belle Vue.

Brough qualifies for Scotland through his Glasgow-born grandfather and first got his opportunity at International level with them. The No7 opted to stay loyal to Scotland and has therefore ruled himself out of a possible England call-up.

Head Coach and Football Director at Belle Vue John Kear is delighted by Brough's appointment. He said: "I'm very pleased for Danny. He's stayed loyal to Scotland for several years not just as the World Cup approaches and I believe Steve McCormack has made the right decision in rewarding Danny's loyalty and giving a natural leader the Captain's arm-band."
