Van Nistelrooy out after ankle operation
Real Madrid's Ruud Van Nistelrooy will be out of action for a lengthy spell after undergoing an operation on his right ankle on Wednesday. He is expected to be back by the time the Netherlands travel to Switzerland and Austria for the European Championships in June.
The 31-year-old former Manchester United striker has been hampered by the problem for a couple of months and as a result has opted to have keyhole surgery to remove the swelling from the ankle.
The operation is being performed in Holland, and he is expected to be out for six weeks. If his rehibilitation is no longer, Van Nistlerooy could be back for the final matches of the Primera División season.
