Football cannot learn from rugby, says Probyn

Former England rugby star Jeff Probyn, does NOT believe football can learn anything from rugby over disrespect shown by players towards officials. Probyn, who won 37 caps for England during the late 1980s and early 90s, claims abuse in his game is just as bad as in the Premier League.

He believes that because rugby is not as high profile as football, it slips under the radar and hopes the Rugby Football Union (RFU) act to clean it up before it gets out of control.

"There is a problem with abuse to referees in rugby just like there is in football, but the only difference is that it is far less high profile, so it does not get the same attention," he said.

"The RFU accept that there is a problem and while you don't get players surrounding the referee in rugby, there is still a problem.

"I think it is wrong to compare the two sports because it is not a fair comparison in terms of how the games are ruled or played."
