Lobbe believes Sharks can be in play-offs
Sale Sharks forward Jean Fernandez Lobbe is confident that the Cheshire side's miserly defence will secure them a place in the Guinness Premiership play-offs come the end of the season.
The Sharks have conceded fewer points than any other team in the league this year and the Argentine international believes their staunch defending will give them the foundation to qualify for honours.
Phillippe Saint Andre's men are currently fifth in the Guinness Premiership and play table-toppers Bath at Edgeley Park on Friday night in a crucial game-in-hand that could get them to within two points of the play-offs.
Lobbe said: "Bath are doing well and have a very good side so it will not be easy but I am a strong believer that defence wins championships.
"If you don't have a strong defence then you won't win."
Unfortunately for Sale, as well as conceding the least points this year their attack has hardly set the world alight, comfortably scoring fewer tries than the other sides in the top seven and Lobbe is urging his team-mates to be as confident in attack as they are in defence.
He added: "We have been defending well but now we have to try and score in every opportunity we have.
"We believe in our defence but we need to believe more in our attack. We are creating a lot of opportunities but we need to transform more of them into tries.
"This league is so tough it is crazy. You can go from fourth to ten really quickly. It is good, it is fun and competitive but you always need to be aware and alert."
