Kahn closes in on Bundesliga record

Bayern Münich goalkeeper Oliver Kahn could become the joint-third most experienced player at the top level in German football when he makes his 552nd appearance this weekend in the Bundesliga against FC Nürnberg. Kahn is already the most experienced goalkeeper, after surpassing Eike Immel's 534 games earlier this season.

The former German stopper, 38, made his Bundesliga debut 21 years ago, back in November 1987, when Karlsruher SC were defeated 4-0 at FC Köln.

Since then, Kahn made 128 Bundesliga appearances for Karlsruher SC (1987-1994) and 423 for Bayern Münich (1994-present).

The record holder for most Bundesliga matches is Karl-Heinz Körbel who played 602 matches at the highest German level between 1972 and 1991.

Manfred Kaltz (581) stands in Kahn's way to Körbel, and he is set to join Klaus Fichtel in 552 games.
