Roddick thanks law of averages after finally beating Federer
Andy Roddick believed the law of averages meant that he was destined to beat Roger Federer in their Sony Ericsson quarter-final clash in Miami. Sixth-seed Roddick won 7-6 (7-4), 4-6, 6-3 to end an 11-match losing run against Federer, with the victory only his second in the 17 meetings between the pair.
Federer has yet to make it to a Final this year, and the American was thankful he continued that poor run after ending his five-year drought against the Swiss world number one.
"He hasn't missed a ball against me for about six years," said Roddick. "I figured the law of statistics had to work for me eventually."
Roddick will face ninth-seed Nikolay Davydenko, who thrashed unseeded Serb Janko Tipsarevic 6-2, 6-1.
The other semi-final will see new favourite Rafael Nadal take on 10th-seed Tomas Berdych.
