Chanderpaul stars as Windies defeat Sri Lanka in ODI
The first One Day International match of the series between the West Indies and Sri Lanka went down to the last ball in a thrilling finale. The Caribbean hosts needed a six of the last ball, bowled by the experienced Chaminda Vaas, and up stepped Shivnarine Chanderpaul and pulled the delivery for the maximum to win the game by one wicket.
Chasing 235-7 Chanderpaul, with no batsmen padded up, needed 10 runs off the remaining two balls. He hit the penultimate delivery for a straight four before ending the game in the most exciting way.
In a grand departure from his nuggety style displayed in last year's series against England, Chanderpaul showed his attacking flair, and proved just why he was named as one of the recent Wisden cricketers of the year. The left-hander ended on an unbeaten 62.
