Chapple-Hyam on song at Doncaster

Trainer Peter Chapple-Hyam saddled the first two home in the feature Doncaster Mile this afternoon, but it was his "second-string", the lesser-fancied Medicine Path who took the honours, beating his gambled-on stable companion Don't Panic by a length.

Don't Panic had looked to be cruising when he hit the front a furlong out, but champion jockey Jamie Spencer conjured a great effort from 9-2 shot Medicine Path, bringing him with a strong run on the outside.

Chapple-Hyam, who was only sent the winner last month, said afterwards: "I hate running two in the same race. If you took Medicine Path out of it, Don't Panic would have won impressively."

6-4 on favourite Heaven Sent had to work hard for her victory in the Kempton opener and, in an exciting Masaka Stakes, Jazz Jam held on well, further emphasising the red-hot strike rate of Paul Cole's stable at the surprisingly generous odds of 5-1.

The Easter Stakes saw 2,000 Guineas hope Il Warrd trouncing a classy field by four-and-a-half-lengths, earning himself a quote of 25-1 - from 66-1 this morning - for the first Classic on May 3rd.

Newbury's jumping card featured a superb finish to the Bathwick Tyres Hurdle where a dozen horses jumped the final hurdle in line, but it was Tom George's Majaales, coming back to form at 10-1, who stayed on strongest under Denis O'Regan to beat Lindop and Mexican Pete.

It's Crucial looked to have the Bathwick Chase in his pocket before 4-1 King Louis - pulled up at Aintree last week - came with a wet sail to deny him, winning by three lengths.
