Woods out for up to six weeks after surgery
World number One Tiger Woods will be sidelined for up to six weeks after undergoing surgery on his left knee for the third time in his career. The news comes just days after Woods finished second to Trevor Immelman at the 2008 Masters.
The American has undergone arthroscopic surgery, and revealed that it had been a success.
Woods has twice undergone operations on this knee, firstly in 1994 to remove a benign tumour, and secondly in 2002, when he underwent the same surgery as he has within the last few days.
"I made the decision to deal with the pain and schedule the surgery for after the Masters," Woods, who will be unable to defend his title at Wachovia Championships in early May, told his official website.
"The upside is that I have been through this process before and know how to handle it.
"I look forward to working through the rehabilitation process and getting back to action as quickly as I can."
Woods could also miss The Players Championship next month, although he is likely to have returned for the US Open, which begins on 12 June.

Trevor better have a great year or people will think he only beat Tiger because of the pain distracting him. We'll see what happens if Tiger is back in time for the Open.
