Tigers demolish Indians
The Detroit Tigers thumped the Cleveland Indians by 11 runs. Edgar Renteria and Miguel Cabrera impressed with the bat, cashing on on Indian pitcher C.C. Sabathia's poor form. His team have now lost eight of their last 11, including the last three.
Renteria hit a grand slam, Cabrera also homered and drove in five runs, and the resurgent Tigers roughed up a struggling Sabathia in a 13-2 victory over the Indians on Wednesday night.
"C.C. is tough to hit," said Renteria, who matched his career best with five RBI. "He's one of the greatest pitchers in baseball. He had a bad night. We got lucky."
Indians' coach Eric Wedge, having heard his team barracked by the supporters, said: "We've had sloppy play, made mental mistakes and there's no excuse."
Star pitcher Sabathia admitted: "I'd boo myself, too.
"My arm feels fine. I just can't command either side of the plate."
