Johnson: I've got carte blanche at Twickenham
Martin Johnson has been given carte blanche as he steps into his new role of team manager of the England Rugby team. Johnson was unveiled today after being officially given the job earlier this week, replacing Brian Ashton, who guided the team to the final of the World Cup last year.
Johnson, who captained England's World Cup-winning side of 2003, said: "I'm very confident that the budget is in place to put the things around the team that we need, and that's important.
"I've certainly got the job description that the top guy in the job needs to have."
Johnson also played down his lack of experience, having never coached at any level before taking the top job in English rugby.
Despite this, he remained the popular choice to take over from Ashton.
He added: "It's a fact I've got no coaching experience but I've got a lot of experience in rugby union over the last 16 years in teams that were successful and even more importantly with teams where has it hasn't worked.
"It's about the players and creating an environment where players can thrive and play, and we can get the best out of them and create a team culture."
