World Championship latest: Hendry prevails
Stephen Hendry produced a stunning comeback to see off the valiant challenge of qualifier Mark Allen 10-9 in a pulsating first-round tie at The Crucible. The seven time champion, who trailed 6-3, bounced back to level at 6-6 before going on to win the match.
Hendry claimed the first three frames of the session before Allen, who beat the Scot 9-4 in the UK Championship in December,took the 13th and 14th with a break of 89.
The 39-year-old forced his way in front at 8-7 before Allen fought back to level.
But Hendry sealed victory by taking the final two frames and will now face either China's Ding Junhui or Hong Kong's Marc Fu in the last sixteen.
Elsewhere, Ryan Day booked his place in the next round following a 10-6 win over Ireland's Michael Judge.
Day will now face John Higgins in the last 16 of the competition.
