Lewis-Francis suffers Beijing blow

Britain's Gold medal hopeful Mark Lewis-Francis looks set to miss out on the Olympics after suffering an Achilles tear. The 25-year-old, who helped the 4x100m relay team to gold in Athens four years ago, was injured during warm-weather training in Cyprus.

Performance director Dave Collins told the BBC: "A scan has shown a partial tear that requires surgery at the earliest opportunity to prevent further damage.

"On the positive side, it's good that the injury has been caught now before a full tear occurs as this would have been potentially career threatening."

Collins added: "I'm sure with that commitment, successful intervention and an intensive rehab programme he will make a successful recovery. We wish him all the best."

Thats really saddening. It would really stink to have something like that come up so close to the Olympics. Here's hoping he heals fully, he's young enough to have plenty of years left to compete even if he has to take some time out to rehabilitate.
