Jones: Sale can Rec Bath's dreams

Sale Sharks head coach Kingsley Jones is backing the Cheshire side to beat Bath in their European clash this weekend. The Sharks visit the Recreation Ground on Saturday in the semi-final of the European Challenge Cup and the former Welsh captain believes that his side have the firepower to go on and win their third Challenge Cup.

Jones, whose side are the underdogs heading into the tie, said:" Bath would be tough if we played them at home or at the Rec but you have to say they are probably slight favourites but we can go there and win.

"We have beaten them twice this season but there is a very difficult task ahead.

"This is the most confident I have seen the guys since two years ago when we in the run in for the title.

"We are very focused and there are a lot of positives."

The winners of the competition will gain a place in Europe's premier competition next season - the Heineken Cup - but Sale can also qualify for that if they finish in the Guinness Premiership's top four.

And with them just a single point off that spot, Jones has reminded his players that they must continue fighting on both fronts to ensure they have a Heineken filled season next year.

He added: "We don't feel like we have done this hard work for nothing.

"I have told them that semi finals count for nothing. Our chance for Europe could all end in the space of a fortnight if we don't keep battling and that would be a disaster.

"Nobody wants that. The guys have had the experience of winning the European Challenge Cup and being in the top four and they need to keep that going to ensure we are there at the end of the season."
