Rangers satisfied with goalless draw with Fiorentina

A depleted Glasgow Rangers managed a goalless draw with Serie A Fiorentina at Ibrox in the first leg of the Uefa Cup semi final. But, as they showed in the quarter final against Sporting Lisbon, they are a potent force away from home and are confident they can do the business when the play in Italy next Thursday.

After a game in which it proved hard to score for both sides, veteran defender David Weir was pleased with the fact that they didn't concede. Adrian Mutu went close for the visitors but goalkeeper Neil Alexander, in his first European game, proved more than capable.

Weir said: "The minimum we wanted tonight was a clean sheet, and we have got that. We have got something to work on - we are still alive and still in the competition. With the group of players that we have still got a good chance.

"These games aer so tight because they mean so much. In the first legs of these competitions teams are usually scared of conceding goals. We are happy with that.

"We had players missing for this game and we are very confident we can go over there and get the result we wanted."

I honestly do not know why anyone could be happy with a game like that one, but I guess I wouldn't know since I was never much of a Football player myself. As long as they are happy though, I guess we should be happy for them.
