Haughton: Red Rose snub spurs us on

Richard Haughton says being ignored by England will spur his Saracens team-mates on against Munster. Despite reaching the Heineken Cup semi finals for the first time, as well as the last four of the EDF Energy Cup, the men in black have been overlooked at national level this year.

Haughton is one of several Saracens hoping to catch the attention of new England supremo Martin Johnson at the Ricoh Arena on Sunday.

The in-form full back said: "A few years ago we had a few players involved with England but we were at the bottom of the table.

"Now we have turned everything around and there's still no recognition.

"There are a number of players who are a little bitter about that but we have to use it to spur ourselves on."

Haughton, 27, has been in scintillating form for Alan Gaffney's team during their march into the last four of the European Cup.

He outshone Wales ace Shane Williams in their unexpected win over the Ospreys in the quarter final with a breathtaking display of counter attacking rugby.

Although he is being tipped for a place on England's summer tour to New Zealand, Haughton is refusing to get carried away.

He said: "To play against a player like Shane Williams and to play as well as I did hopefully gives me a boost personally but also career wise.

"Of course I'd love to tour in the summer but I've been talked up too often in the past to count my chickens."
