Swail left fuming by defeat
Joe Swail was left fuming after crashing out at The Crucible in a sensational clash with China's Liang Wenbo.Swail, who rallied from 12-8 down to take the tie into a final frame, accused his opponent of being unprofessional and questioned the position of the yellow ball after it had been replaced in a tense deciding frame.
Liang led by 27 points with only 27 left on the table when he failed to hit the yellow off the cushion, but he then went onto hit the yellow without the need of a cushion after being asked to repeat the shot, an achievement that let Swail incensed.
"It's very, very hard to take," Swail told the BBC. "There was absolutely no way he could see the yellow. If that was the case why not play that shot in the first place?
"I'm absolutely fuming at that. I think it was a very unprofessional thing to do and I told him (Liang) that. I will have to look at it again but I'm 99% sure he could not see the yellow.
"Any player would be honest enough to say I can't see the yellow. When I put him back in I was taking it for granted he would come off the side cushion again."
But Liang, who went on to win the final frame after the incident, rejected Swail's accusations and insists he is now ready to face Ronnie O'Sullivan in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
"I could see the yellow but it was so thin I was worried the ball could go in-off so that's why I played off the cushion the first time," he said after his 13-12 victory.
"I am delighted to make the quarter-finals and I am looking forward to playing O'Sullivan.
"In the last frame I had calmed down a bit because there was nothing to lose but before then I was very tense."
