McGuigan: Calzaghe is Britain's best
Barry McGuigan believes Joe Calzaghe is the greatest boxer to have ever emerged from Britain and says the Welshman could compete with some of the most famous names from the past or present.
Calzaghe, who defeated Bernard Hopkins on April 20 to extend his unbeaten record to 45 fights, has made 21 world title defences at super-middleweight, and is unbeaten in 18 years.
"His record alone tells us that he's probably the best fighter we've ever had," former featherweight world champion McGuigan told BBC Sport.
"Also the amount of world champions he's beaten and the way he's conducted his life, he has to be up there.
"There'll be those old-timers who say he wasn't as good as Jimmy Wilde or Benny Lynch or Jim Driscoll or Randolph Turpin or Nigel Benn, whatever.
"Boxing's about styles and his style may not appeal to everybody, but he could well be the best boxer this country has produced."

I do not know if I would call Joe Calzaghe the greatest boxer EVER in british history like Mr. McGuigan seems to think, but there is very little doubt that he is one of the best to emerge in quite some time. This boxer is excellent whatever way you want to look at it, and you have to respect him regardless of any personal opinions.
