Santana taunts Rangers

Fiorentina midfielder Mario Santana has taunted Rangers by claiming his side are far superior then their Scottish opponents. The Italian side, who claimed a goalless draw in the first leg of the Uefa Cup semi-final at Ibrox last week, will start as favourites on Thursday to progress to the final at the City of Manchester Stadium next month.

"We're one of the best teams in Italy, and we need to demonstrate that our league is far superior to the Scottish one," said Santana.

"We're confident but realistic that it won't be easy, even on home turf.

"Rangers are one of the most uncomfortable teams I have played against.

"The key for us is to get a goal because that forces Rangers to come out and change their system."

Despite failing to score in the home leg, Rangers will travel to Italy full of confidence having already won at Lyon and Sporting Lisbon this season.

And Fiorentina midfielder Martin Jorgensen admits his side will have to be at their best to deny Walter Smith's side a crucial away goal.

"We have to be alert and not concede anything," he told the BBC. "It's a semi-final, so we have to be 100% concentrated.

"We know it will be difficult game, but we are so close to the final now and we will do everything we can to go through."
