Montgomerie targets two more wins for Ryder Cup place
Colin Montgomerie has targeted two wins in his next eight tournaments to ensure himself of a Ryder Cup place. The Scot is returning to action at the Spanish Open after going on honeymoon following his wedding two weeks ago, and knows he has to climb 24 places in the rankings to move into the top ten and ensure himself a place in Nick Faldo's side.
Montgomerie could still be granted a wildcard as he looks to compete in his ninth Ryder Cup - in which he has never lost a singles match - but insists he is focused on becoming an automatic selection.
"I'm not saying I will win here, but I'm playing eight of the next nine weeks and I've got to win twice," explained Montgomerie.
"If I do that I think it will prove to him (Faldo) and everyone else I am still capable of competing.
"I found out with The Masters that if you're not playing you can't win. But it's up to me now."
