Smith praises triumphant Rangers
Walter Smith paid tribute to his Rangers side after they claimed their place in the Uefa Cup final with a penalty shoot-out win over Fiorentina.The SPL side prevailed 4-2 on penalties after the tie ended goalless and the Ibrox chief was left delighted with his side's performance.
Rangers were under pressure for the majority of the game but they refused to buckle and Smith was quick to praise his fierce warriors.
"That performance will take some beating," he told ITV.
"The whole team was fantastic and they defended brilliantly to prevent Fiorentina from scoring.
"Credit to Fiorentina they were putting us under pressure, but I couldn't ask for anymore from my players.
"Penalty kicks are always a lottery but it's fantastic to get to the final."
Striker Nacho Novo fired home the winning penalty and the Spanish striker admitted he was left in disbelief at his side's achievement.
"I can't believe it," said Novo. "It's so exciting for us and for the team. It was a great performance."
