Edwards on pole in China
Colin Edwards produced a superb performance to secure Tech 3 Yamaha's first MotoGP pole since 2002 after he was quickest in qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix. The American rider stunned Valentino Rossi is second, while reigning champion Casey Stoner completes the front row.
Joint world championship leaders Jorge Lorenzo - who was racing just a day after chipping his ankle in a high-speed crash - and Dani Pedrosa are fourth and fifth respectively, while Toseland's British team-mate James Toseland will start on the third rown of the grid, having qualified in seventh place.
And Toseland, who admitted he struggled with the damp conditions, was pleased for his team-mate and admitted Edwards' success is an extra motivation for him.
"We've practised in slightly damp conditions here in Shanghai, but I have absolutely no experience at this track in the wet so I'm hoping that the weather will not be as bad as the forecast suggests," said Toseland.
"However, having said that I live on the Isle of Man so I'm used to rain!
"We have an excellent package with Tech 3 Yamaha and Michelin as Colin has proved by securing pole.
"I'm really pleased for him because I know how talented he is and how hard he works, but it also provides strong motivation for me.
"I have to be happy with seventh place on the grid, but I still want to push myself to achieve more and demonstrate the full capabilities of the team and package."
