Penguins advance as Rangers flap out

A young Pittsburgh Penguins team have defied expectation by beating the New York Rangers and advancing through the NHL Eastern Conference Final for the first time in seven years. They will now face cross-state club Philadelphia Flyers to set up an all-Pennsylvanian affair.

As the talent of the Penguins overcame the experience of the Flyers, Marian Hossa, who had been derided for not performing when it really mattered, scored two goals to clinch a 3-2 victory.

Hossa scored his second goal of the game seven minutes into overtime. The Penguins, the conference's worst team two years ago, will meet the cross-state Philadelphia Flyers, the conference's worst team last season.

The teams haven't met in the postseason since the Flyers' six-game victory in a 2000 second-round series best remembered for Philadelphia's five-overtime win in Game four, which occurred eight years to the day Sunday.
