O'Sullivan in pole position to claim third world title

Ronnie O'Sullivan is closing on his third snooker World Championship after an impressive first day of the final at the Crucible in Sheffield. He leads Ali Carter 11-5, and needs only seven more frames to claim victory in the best of 35-frame match up.

O'Sullivan, 32, was winning 6-2 after the opening session, but both players made mistakes and despite an 86 to make the score 8-3, Carter reduced the deficit with breaks of 76 and 80.

O'Sullivan though, ended with runs of 57 and 106 to lead 11-5 overnight.
