O'Sullivan considers taking a break from snooker

Ronnie O'Sullivan has threatened to take an extended break from snooker after claiming his third world after trouncing Ali Carter 18-8 at the Crucible. O'Sullivan was, by his own admission, never at his best in the final, but still proved too strong for surprise finalist Carter, winning just two frames into the final session.

O'Sullivan destroyed seven-time champion Stephen Hendry in the semi final, scoring five centuries to go alongside the 147 maximum break he compiled in the second round against Mark Williams.

But after failing to hit the same heights in the final, the world number one is now considering his options.

He said: "I struggled out there. It would be nice to win the title again in the future but maybe it is time to take a break.

"It feels strange because I'm relieved more than anything else.

"The best I felt was during the first three frames and the last two frames.

"I'd like to think I can win maybe one or two more - I'm halfway to Steve Davis' record now.

"It's a great feeling to win at The Crucible but you have to put the enormity of the occasion out of your mind. However, I've never been one to let occasion get to me."
