Lund to leave Sale for Biarritz
Sale Sharks flanker Magnus Lund will join Biarritz at the end of this season in a bid to get his international career back on track. Lund burst onto the England scene against Australia in 2006 but has won only nine other caps since then having been dropped from England's World Cup and Six Nations plans.
The 24-year-old says the move is as much about getting out of his comfort zone and trying a new lifestyle as it is playing rugby against different players and says he can't wait to get to the South of France.
He said:" I have been in Manchester for quite a while and I don't know if it is a comfort zone but I have really enjoyed it here.
"Part of the challenge will be about going over to a different country and experiencing that and hopefully that will help me develop as person and a player."
It was rumoured that Lund was on the verge of quitting top class rugby altogether for a year in order to travel and broaden his horizons but he is hoping the move to France will allow him to combine his rugby career with his desire to develop as a person.
He added:" Sale wanted me to stay. I have been here a long time and they like keeping the Manchester lads all together but it was a personal decision in terms of wanting to develop and I feel like I might need to do that elsewhere now."
And although Twickenham bosses are known to prefer England players to be playing in the Guinness Premiership, Lund is hoping his decision to move on to the continent will not prevent selectors from considering him.
He said: "I hope that doesn't totally put me out of the picture and we will see and hopefully playing well in the Heineken Cup will keep me in the frame and if that's the case then I can still be picked."
