Varndell signs new deal with the Tigers

England wing Tom Varndell has become the 11th player to sign a new contract with Leicester Tigers this year. The 22-year-old, who is currently the leading try-scorer in the Guinness Premiership, joins the likes of fellow internationals George Chuter, Martin Castrogiovanni, Marcos Ayerza and Martin Corry in committing his future to the club.

"I'm very happy to be staying at the club," says Varndell. "It's still regarded as one of the best clubs in the country, if not Europe. With the fan base and the following that we have, it's an amazing club to be a part of and I'm very happy to be extending my contract."

Although Tigers currently lie outside the play-off positions, Varndell, whose brace of tries against Newcastle Falcons last Sunday took him to 15 for the season in all competitions and 60 in 94 career appearances for Tigers, believes the club are still as determined as ever to succeed.

"When we play good rugby, we're one of the best teams around. There are so many quality players here. I've grown up with guys like Tom Croft and Jordan Crane and I'm looking forward to progressing.

This is a club that prides itself on being in finals and winning trophies and we're looking forward to doing that again."
