Jones pleased Sales' destiny is in their own hands
Sale Sharks head coach Kingsley Jones is thrilled the Cheshire side's Guinness Premiership destiny is back in their own hands after their momentous win over Harlequins last weekend and says he is confident the Sharks can now go on and win the league.
After being dumped out of the European Challenge Cup by Bath a fortnight ago, the Sharks' travelled to the Stoop last Sunday and defeated the Quins 23-14 to move into third spot in the league and a win against London Irish on Saturday will see Jones' squad qualify for the Heineken Cup as well as enter the title play-offs.
The two points would also mean Sale control their own destiny and would then not have to rely on other results to see them through.
Jones said: "We dont want to look to confident but you have to be positive.
"This is the most successful year the club has had apart from when we won it.
"If we win the next three games we win the title and that will match the year we won it. We have the best defence in the Premmiership and the best home defence ever in the Premiership so there are a lot of positives.
"Our attack is not as good as we like, there are things we would like to improve on like the lineout but in terms of the attitude, which is what rugby is usally won on, you can't fault that and the lads deserve all the credit fot that."
With only 55 points in the league, London Irish cannot qualify for the play offs but Jones believes they will still provide a stern test at Edgeley Park.
He added:"We want to keep it in our hands and put in a great performance against London Irish, They have had a taste of Heineken Cup rugby and they will want that again and again and they will also want to catch Leicester in front of them."
