Burley blasts SPL
Scotland boss George Burley has blasted the Scottish Premier League for failing to help Rangers achieve success in the Uefa Cup Final. Walter Smith's side face Russia's Zenit St Petersburg in Manchester on May 14 but face a gruelling end of season schedule as they chase the quadruple.
The SPL has delayed the final set of fixtures by four days to accomodate Rangers, but the Glasgow club still face four games in eight days and have seen pleas to re-schedule this Saturday's clash with Dundee United fall on deaf ears.
"I think it's ridiculous that I'm naming the squad and Rangers still have seven games to play," said Burley, whose side will take on the Czech Republic on May 30.
"They are being punished for their success in reaching the Uefa Cup final.
"And it's something that the SPL and everyone in Scottish football has got to look at.
"It shouldn't happen to any club and shouldn't happen again in Scottish football.
"It has to be looked at in the fullness of time. Europe's changing with the Champions League and Uefa Cup. You've got to change with it."
