Hodgson eyes Sharks glory

The Guinness Premiership's top scorer Charlie Hodgson is hoping he can maintain his current form to kick Sale Sharks to glory this season. Hodgson has long been the Sharks' creative lynchpin and this season has been no different, scoring 201 points so far to top the scorers' list from Leicester Tigers' Andy Goode.

The Sale number 10 has also converted 76 sucessful kicks this term and with the team on the verge of securing a top four finish and a Heineken Cup place for next season, the Halifax-born fly half is happy with his own showing.

The Sharks are currently sit third in the Guinness Premiership and know a win at Edgeley Park against London Irish on Saturday will confirm their presence in the end of season play-offs.

Hodgson said: "I am pleased with the way things are going.

"I have been consistent over the year and I am hoping that will carry on over the coming weeks. The Quins game last week was a massive result and one we can take confidence from.

"We need to make sure we get a win against London Irish and use that confidence for when we get into the semi-finals."

Sale have been extremely busy off the pitch bringing in Luke Abrahams from the Tigers and Mathew Tait from Newcastle Falcons as well as letting Magnus Lund leave for French side Biarritz and Hodgson is looking forward to welcoming the new faces. He added: "It will be good meeting up with the pair if them. I know Mat from england and I know how exciting a player he can be and from playing against him it is tough because of how quick he is.

"Luke was one of the best players at Leicester and he will be a great player to have at the club as well.

He also said he would be sad to see Lund swap Manchester for the French coast.

Hodgson said: "Maggy [Lund] is a good character around the club, a nice guy off the field but a great player on the field and someone of his calibre would be missed wherever he goes and Biarritz have got a good player coming to them."
