Wright century digs Lions out of a hole

Luke Wright blitzed a brilliant hundred as England Lions dug themselves out of serious trouble to reach 280 all out on the opening day against New Zealand. The 23-year-old Sussex all rounder did his hopes of a Test debut no harm whatsoever with a superb knock after the Liions had slumped to 89 for five after they had won the toss and batted.

A week ahead of the first day of the opening Test at Lord's New Zealand enjoyed a decent run out against England's second string.

England hopefuls Rob Key (24), Owais Shah (3) and Ravi Bopara (7) had earlier failed to make an impression on a glorious day for batting at the Rose Bowl.

Chris Martin and Jacob Oram were the pick of the Kiwi bowlers with three wickets apiece but Wright's punchy contribution saw the day finish with honours close to even
