Vaughan feeling the heat

Michael Vaughan admits he is feeling the pressure after failing to make a half-century ahead of England's opening Test match with New Zealand. The Yorkshire batsman, who has made just 135 runs in seven innings for his county, says he is struggling to justify his place in the national side.

"I am under pressure - that is the position I am in because I didn't score runs in a series in New Zealand," the England skipper to the ECB website.

"Over the last year, in the 12 Tests I've played, I think I have averaged 43 with two hundreds.

"But you're always remembered for your last series and I didn't have a good last series."

Despite making 17 Test hundreds, Vaughan's poor form in New Zealand last winter called his captaining credentials into question, but he insists that he has not lost faith in his ability.

He added: "I don't give a damn what anyone says about that. What will be will be.

"I am doing it to the best of my ability and trying to build a team to compete with the best teams in the world."

England will play three Test matches against the Black Caps with the first starting at Lord's next Thursday.
