Pietersen keeping focused

Kevin Pietersen is focused on recapturing his best batting form this summer as England take on New Zealand and South Africa. The England star enjoyed a superb summer last year reaching number one spot in the one-day charts and number three in Tests.

By his own sky-high standards he endured a tough winter against Sri Lanka and New Zealand and slipped down the official ICC rankings.

He did hit a match-winning ton against the Black Caps in the last Test at Napier - an innings he describes as "a career highlight".

Ahead of Thursday's opening npower Test against the same opponents at Lord's the 27-year-old has vowed to carry on the improvement.

"I just want to get back playing really consistent cricket and lead on from the last Test in New Zealand," Pietersen said.

"That was one of my career highlights in terms of putting us in a winning position away from home.

"Winning to me is the most important thing so winning that series was great. Getting back to playing consistent cricket is what I'm searching for.

"I was never searching for that number one spot but I do want to be the best or one of the best cricketers in the world.

"I want to be consistent in performing and if I get back to number one in the world this year I will have played some consistently good cricket which I want to try to do."
