Saracens Jones praises Borthwick decisions

Saracens Director of Rugby Eddie Jones has praised the decision to appoint new signing Steve Bothwick as England captain. The 28-year-old second row joins Saracens for the start of the 2008/09 season and, but Jones was disappointed that more of the club's players were not included in the main and Saxons squads.

Prop Nick Lloyd is the only current Saracens player to have been named in the squads this morning and he will be taking part in the Churchill Cup in Canada and America after being selected with the Saxons, but the likes of Richard Haughton and Adam Powell have missed out.

Jones said: "I'm delighted for Steve and its fantastic for Saracens that we will have the England captain as part of our club next season.

"He's had an excellent season for Bath and the fact that he has been named as captain demonstrates the leadership abilities he has both on and off the pitch.

"We always knew that he was going to be a great addition to the team next season but this morning's news makes that even more exciting and everyone is looking forward to working with him. He will be a real asset to Saracens.

"Congratulations also must go to Nick Lloyd on his selection in the Saxons. He's had a fine season and deserves the call-up, but we are disappointed that more of our players were not selected.

"Certainly someone like Richard Haughton, who is the club's player of the year, has been performing at a consistently high level all season and he along with some other players at Saracens are unlucky not to be touring this summer."
