Quinnell backs McGeechan to restore pride

Ian McGeechan has been backed to restore some dignity to the British & Irish Lions shirt following their calamitous tour to New Zealand in 2005. The Wasps director of rugby was appointed yesterday as Lions boss for next year's tour of South Africa.

The Lions, under Sir Clive Woodward's leadership, were humbled 3-0 by the All Blacks three years ago.

Former Wales and Lions star Scott Quinnell says McGeechan, who he played under in 1997, is the man to restore some pride.

"He's an incredible guy and he understands it all.

"He's played for the Lions, he understands what the Lions are about and I' m sure he'll bring a bit of dignity back, which I think we lost a bit in 2005."
