Twice Over doubt for Derby after defeat

Derby favourite Twice Over suffered a surprising reversal at the hands of the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Tartan Bearer in the Dante Stakes at York. Twice over finished a distant third as Tartan Bearer fought it out to the line with Aidan O'Brien's Frozen Fire.

But it was 10-1 shot Tartan Bearer, ridden by Ryan Moore, who finished the stronger to claim victory.

Twice Over's trainer Henry Cecil said afterwards that the horse was now a doubt for next month's Classic at Epsom.

He said: "I am not blaming the ground as all the others went on it. He came there and emptied out and he was disappointing really.

"Whether he needs to come back in distance or not I don't know. It is up to the Prince (Khalid Abdullah), but I don't think he will run in the Derby after that."
