Sidebottom: I was determined to make my mark

Ryan Sidebottom admitted he was determined to improve on his wicketless display on day one after taking four for 55 to bowl out New Zealand on day two of the first Test. The Nottinghamshire left-armer mopped up the Kiwi tail with a superb display of swing bowling as the Black Caps were all out for 277.

Sidebottom said: "I was bitterly disappointed not to have backed up the other bowlers on the first day.

"New Zealand probably got 50 too many in hindsight. I spoke to our bowling coach Otis Gibson this morning and put a few things right.

"It was our plan to be a bit more aggressive. I was a bit lazy yesterday but you can't bowl well all the time.

"Maybe I was trying a bit too hard in my first Test at Lord's but there are no excuses. It was nice to bowl well today.

"I was a bit nervous on day one but relaxed more today and bowled a lot better as a result. I do see myself as the leader of the attack now. Why shouldn't I?

"We bowled well as a unit today. I don't think we bowled as aggressively as we could have been on day one.

"Tomorrow is a big day but the wicket has settled down a bit and is good for batting."
