Keane desperate for Scholes success

Roy Keane has paid tribute to former Manchester United team-mate Paul Scholes and say he is desperate for the midfielder to lift the Champions League trophy in Moscow. Keane and Scholes both missed out on the 1999 triumph against Bayern Munich through suspension and the Sunderland boss is backing his good friend to make the most of his opportunity.

"It would be nice for Paul to win it, he's had a brilliant career and it would be the icing on the cake," Keane told Sunderland's official website.

"And who's to say he won't be back there next year, I'm sure he is going to play on for a few more years yet.

"It's brilliant for Scholesy because he missed out on the final [in 1999] and hopefully he will win it [this time].

"Regardless of what happens, it won't take away from what a top player he is.

"People often judge players on how many trophies they have won but, even if United hadn't got to another European Cup final, it still wouldn't have taken away from what a top, top player he is."
