Keane: Sunderland should be inspired by Portsmouth's success

Sunderland manager Roy Keane has told his players they should be inspired by Portsmouth's FA Cup success and he will target both the FA and Carling Cups next season. Sunderland have not won a cup game since January 2006, having gone out at the first hurdle on the last five occasions in both competitions.

And while Keane admits he is hugely disappointed by Sunderland's poor cup form, he insists that will change next term.

"We've got to look at Portsmouth and believe we can do something similar," said Keane, who won the FA Cup four times as a player with Manchester United.

"Our cup performances have been some of my biggest disappointments at Sunderland.

"You just have to look at the FA Cup this season to see the opportunities - with only one Premier League team in the semi-finals.

"One of my ambitions for next season is to do well in the cups - but saying that I was ambitious to do well in them last year and the year before!

"We'd love to have a good cup run next season."
