Kubica: Reliability the key to impressive season
Robert Kubica has lauded his BMW Sauber team for improving their car's reliability as he reflects on a start to the season that sees him sitting four points clear at the top of the Formula One standings after seven races. The Pole won in Canada last weekend to claim the first victory of his premier class career.
That capped an impressive start to the season which has seen Kubica claim three podium spots and two fourth places, with only one retirement so far.
And while he does not race in the quickest car the Kubica believes reliability is all-important - and admits he may not get such a good chance to challenge for the world title again.
"I did not expect to be leading the championship after seven races, as our car is not the absolute fastest on the grid," he said.
"However, we have total reliability. We were still experiencing a few problems in this area last year, but since then we've made huge improvements.
"Added to which, the pit crew has done a great job, as has everybody in the team."
Kubica continued: "I have collected points regularly so far this year, but of course I don't know if that is going to continue," Kubica said.
"I will focus on the Grands Prix one at a time and try to take maximum points in every situation.
"Of course, consistency is an important factor, and I hope that we are also able to make further improvements to the car. Then we can achieve good things.
"Whatever happens, we have to do all we can to make the best of the situation. After all, who knows if I will ever get a chance like this again. One thing is for sure - I'll be giving it everything."

Reliability is indeed a great factor in having a winning season. Its not good enough to win every couple races by alot, you want to win consistently to know you're not just wasting time and money. If you only win twice a season at the first and last race, even if the wins are spectacular, its not going to please the sponsors.
