Borthwick: Preperations going well despite controversy
England captain Steve Borthwick believes preparations for the second Test against New Zealand are 'going well' despite most of the focus being on an alleged incident at the team's hotel after last Saturday's 37-20 defeat to the All Blacks. Reports claim four players are under investigation, with police today asking to speak to those involved.
But Borthwick - who admits he has had a pep talk from incoming Team Manager Martin Johnson, who is at home in England with his pregnant wife - insists the focus is squarely on Saturday's Test in Christchurch.
''When you have got a game against the All Blacks at the weekend, the focus is very clear," said second row Borthwick.
''Our preparations have gone well. As soon as we started training on Monday, we were very clear on what we needed to do to improve performance from last weekend and ensure we get a better result.
"The players have worked tremendously hard in training. We will provide a better performance and a better account of ourselves this weekend."
When asked if he had spoken to Johnson, Borthwick added: ''I have spoken to Martin.
"With somebody of Martin Johnson's character, any conversation you have with him is going to be a positive experience.''
