Borthwick: New Zealand's finishing the key
England captain Steve Borthwick admitted New Zealand's superior finishing was the difference as his side ended their miserable tour of New Zealand with a 44-12 loss loss to the All Blacks in Christchurch. The hosts were 20-0 ahead at half-time and continued to dominate, scoring five tries to two.
And after the build-up was dominated by a police investigation into an alleged incident at the team's hotel after the first Test, a 37-20 win for New Zealand, Borthwick appeared relieved to be talking purely about rugby, although he admitted England were 'found wanting'.
"We've got to credit the All Blacks," Borthwick admitted.
"Whenever they saw a try-scoring opportunity, got close to the line, they took those opportunities.
"We had some opportunities in the first half. We didn't take them and ultimately that cost us.
"We were a long way away at half-time. It could have been a lot closer. But I'd like to credit the England boys, the way they stuck at it. We know our precision let us down but it was outstanding effort."
He continued: "The last two games we've been found wanting against very strong opponents. You can have a great week's training but it comes down to the 80 minutes."
