Donadoni: I won't quit

Roberto Donadoni insists he has no intention of quitting as Italy boss after his side were dumped out of Euro 2008.The world champions lost out to Spain on penalty kicks in Vienna after 120 minutes of goalless action, leaving the Italian Football Federation considering Donadoni's future with the national team.

The former AC Milan midfielder, who replaced Marcello Lippi after the 2006 World Cup triumph, signed a new two-year contract extension just before the start of Euro 2008.

But despite Federation president Giancarlo Abete having already stated that he is ready to assess Donadoni's future as manager, the Italy boss says he will not quit his role in the wake of his side's elimination.

He said: "I don't see why I should resign. That would seem excessive.

"Absolutely not. I don't see why decisions like this should be made if a game is won or lost on penalties. It seems like stupid reasoning.

"I think the fact that he (Abete) doesn't say much might be part of his character, which is similar to my own.

"I don't want to force anyone's hand. That's not the way I think. I'm moving forward serenely. We'll see over the next 10 days. It's useless to make calculations."
