Benitez: Reports of £50m transfer demands 'ridiculous'

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has slammed stories suggesting he has demanded a £50m summer transfer kitty, describing them as 'ridiculous'. The Daily Mirror today claimed that was the case and Benitez has been linked with a move for Sevilla full-back Daniel Alves.

But with the Brazilian reportedly set for Barcelona, Benitez has held that case up as an example of how stories are built up, only saying that he is 'working hard' at bringing in new players.

"The stories are ridiculous. Total rubbish," Benitez told the club's official website.

"They have me trying to sign Daniel Alves, who already has an agreement with Barcelona, so how could I be trying to sign him?

"I am working hard with Rick Parry, who is in regular contact with the Americans, and there are no problems.

"The reports are just unbelievable."
