Marseille: Nasri deal close
Arsenal's move for Marseille midfielder Samir Nasri is close to completion, according to the French club's chairman Pape Diouf. Arsene Wenger has been after Nasri all summer and there were premature reports from the player that he had sealed a deal worth around £12m.
And Diouf admits the move is likely to happen, citing the Webster clause, which allows players to buy out their contracts when have spent three years at a club, as reason for the sale coming now so that the Ligue 1 side can maximise the sale.
"We know Samir Nasri's position. Under the Webster ruling, he had the possibility of leaving the club for much less than the agreement we've reached today," Diouf told Marseille's official website.
"After talks with him and his representatives, we've reached an agreement on the circumstances of his departure. Samir was approached in very concrete terms by Arsenal, who also contacted us.
"There are therefore steps that need to be taken to reach an agreement between the clubs.
"There is a strong chance he could play for (Arsenal) next season, but until the agreement is formalised we can't talk about any departure."
