Richards relishing UEFA Cup adventure
Manchester City defender Micah Richards is delighted that his club will be in the draw for the UEFA Cup on Tuesday. Richards believes that he and his team-mates totally deserve the adventure, even if they only qualified for having the best disciplinary record in the league outside Champions League qualifiers.
And the England international, who turned 20 last week, is hoping for a favourable draw when City's name is pulled in Nyon at 12.30, UK time.
Richards said of European football: "It's something new for the boys and something we're very much looking forward to.
"We missed out on the chance for Europe a few years back when Robbie Fowler missed a penalty against Middlesbrough, but this time, whether it's lucky or not we're in there via the Fair Play League.
"I think all in all though for our efforts at the beginning of the season and the way we played all season we deserve to be in there. It can only be good for the Club and hopefully we can have a good run in the UEFA Cup.
"It should be good fun and all the lads will be looking forward to that."
On the 2008/09 season he added: "I've not looked at the whole of the fixture list yet but I've seen that we're away at Aston Villa for the first game of the season.
"It's a tough one to start off with but we've got a good record against Villa of late. We've got some good players in our team as well so there's no reason why we can't go out and get the three points on the day."
