Lowes warns Warrington fans to brace themselves for more of ups and downs

James Lowes has warned Warrington Wolves fans that this season's ups and downs have not finished just yet. Warrington were one of the pre-season favourites for Grand Final glory but four consecutive Super League defeats led to the sacking of Paul Cullen a month ago.

Although they are back in a play-off spot, their inconsistent form worries new boss Lowes.

Warrington won at Hull FC last Sunday with the last kick of the game as Chris Hicks converted Matt King's late try to give them a 24-22 win and Lowes says Wolves fans can probably expect more of the same.

He said: "A win is a win really.

"The boys showed some great character defensively. we played much better and created a lot of chances and that was a big positive.

"The win was a big relief for everybody but I have said before that the back end of the season is going to be a big rollercoaster.

"We had a big dip when we lost to Catalans and we have climbed back up a bit but it will be like this for the rest of the year.

"The boys are showing a lot of pride and determination and character in what I am asking them to do and I am proud of them."

Wolves have the second worst defensive record in Super League and while Lowed admits it is a concern, he says he will not be doing too much to change it during the season, insisting it is a problem that needs resolving after the season is over.

He added: "We are poor defensively, it has not been the best throughout the year.

"It is tweaking stuff though rather than major changes that is requires and it will stay like that for the rest of the year.

"Big changes to the way we play will come in pre-season, not now."
